Eating out in Cádiz

Not only is it possible to have a fun dining experience in a restaurant, summer can become an ideal time to enjoy a cooking course or an original tasting. Eating out in the province of Cádiz offers a wide range of options.
Here is a list of traditional and more creative proposals:
  • Cooking courses in Cádiz cover a range of all tastes. In Vejer Annie Manson offers different experiences, hands on cooking in her and visits to Bodegas, markets and food producers. Annie will teach you typical recipes mixed with local products, tapas tours of the best bars and excursions dedicated to Jerez wine, another of the great passions of Anne who is a licensed ’Sherry Expert’. Other options include Foodie Cádiz, in the heart of this maritime city where they organize cooking and showcooking workshops. Another space is Decimoarte in Sanlúcar de Barrameda which organize events for couple, kids and companies. In Jerez 5 Senses offers courses for children and adults in a relaxed family atmosphere.

  • For the sweetest palates we have the ‘Honey Museum’ in Jerez de la Frontera, where we can see beekeeping in the history of human beings, the fascinating world of bees and the health benefits that bees and honey bring us. They have an organic garden and a health food restaurant. The museum has beekeeping workshops and all kinds of activities such as full moon contemplation or children's animations.


  • Enjoy wine tourism during the harvest season! If you are a wine lover you can not miss the Fiestas de la Vendimia de Jerez from August 31 to September 15. The famous cultural fair has activities for all tastes such as music, exhibitions, visits, tastings, literature and gastronomy, among others. In addition, on September 14, European Horse Day will be celebrated, with a program that will include two equestrian shows and a conference on the horse.


  • Absolute classic Cádiz dishes include shrimp tortillas. You cannot leave the province without trying them, available in any good traditional beach restaurant the best are produced in the bar of El Faro de Cádiz.  Sea anemones, fried in batter are another curiosity, some of the best are available at El Campero in Barbate.  Off the beaten track try the Venta el Toro in Santa Lucía (near Vejer) where the ‘plato del día’ might be Thistles with Beans (Potaje de Tagarninas) or Chickpeas and green beans (Potaje de garbanzos y judias), under a thatched roof by a stream what could be better?


  • The province of Cádiz is lucky to have a wide range of food fairs. In August the XVIII Tapas Route is celebrated throughout August in Cádiz, in Zahara de los Atunes the IX Retinto Route will be held from October 9 to 13. Not to mention the International Pork Loin day (!!!) that is celebrated every year in Vejer on October 14. Other events for the 2020 calendar are both the Tuna fairs at the height of the fishing season in May in Conil and Zahara de los Atunes.
